Service awards for theatre's stalwarts

Nov 7 2011

FOUR long-standing members of Sutton Arts Theatre have been honoured for their work in amateur theatre.

Front of house staff Sue Atkins, Jill Ellis and married couple Joe and Joyce Dyke were presented with their Long Service Awards by Paul Douglass from the National Operatic and Dramatic Association, NODA.

Sue, who received a medal for 25 years service and two silver bars for 30 and 35 years service, said: It is good to receive the award and have recognition of the years of service which we have given to amateur theatre.

I have been front of house manager for about 15 years and really enjoy the job although it can be very challenging at times.

I am also chair of the fund raising committee of the theatre, of which Joe and Joyce are members. We have been friends for nearly 40 years and work well together supporting each other. Joe and Joyce work very hard for the theatre and are very supportive.

Jill Ellis is another of my front of house managers, who helps with every play and is a valued member of my team. We rely on volunteers and Jill is always willing to help.

Jill also received a medal for 25 years service and two silver bars for 30, 35 years while Joyce received an additional silver bar for 40 years and her husband was awarded a gold bar for half a centurys service.
