GB stars go for gold

08:45, Sep 1 2012

Darling of the pool Ellie Simmonds and Equestrian ace Lee Pearson are among the stars who will be going for gold on what is hoped will be a Super Saturday for ParalympicsGB.

The 17-year-old is waiting to see if she will face her main rival Victoria Arlen, who will be reassessed following the qualifier in the S6 400m freestyle.

Pearson is another strong gold medal contender, as he bids for a 10th Paralympic gold medal in the Grade Ib individual championship.

And, fresh off the back of his controversial non-start on Friday, Jody Cundy will be hoping to make amends as he returns to the velodrome in the C4 4km individual pursuit.

Cundy bowed out of the C4/5 1km time trial after his back wheel spun and slipped at the start.

His appeal for a restart was denied - leaving him to make an expletive-laden emotional outburst as the fans jeered in disbelief.

He later took to the microphone to apologise to the cheering velodrome fans.

It was a day of elation, tears and tantrums as Britain landed 20 medals, including four gold, 11 silver and five bronze medals - putting them third in the table.
