Team effort is key to Cup win

Mar 12 2010

Sutton Coldfield 4 Rugby & East Warwick 1

This was a historic victory in the quarter finals of the national Vase Cup for over 50s.

Despite the absence of several key players, Sutton managed to play some excellent hockey and easily defeat Rugby.

After 15 minutes, the languid Peter (Snowy) Edmunds hit a ferocious shot into the goal. Five minutes before half time, Sutton’s captain, Andy Lane scored.

Sutton carried on in the same confident manner in the second half but a mix up allowed Rugby to score. After a series of passes, perfectly positioned Neil Blackburn scored Sutton’s third. Rugby were further demoralised by Chris Hendon’s final goal.
