No stopping Robinson as young athletes claim two league victories

Sunday saw youngsters aged nine to 16 from all over the region compete in the last leg of this West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League at Perry Park.

The first race was the U11 Girls where Sutton had 12 girls competing and the five scorers were Elizabeth Ghent (18th), Jessica Tarr (21st), Georgia Batchelor (22nd) Holly Felton (29th) and Georgina Case (57th).

The U11 girls finished in silver position overall.

Next were the U17 Women, a really strong run from Jemma Westgate who finished in 9th, followed by Amy Johnson (11th), Megan Stratford (15th) Lucy Jennings (17th) and Emily Cosgrove (25th) overall this gave them 4th in the league.

The U13 Girls ran well with Lizzie Ward finishing 2nd which gave her 5th overall, next home was Molly Rees (13th), Sophia Karski (19th), Amelia Andrews (33rd) and Sophia Shipley (59th). Overall the team came 3rd.

The U15 Girls showed their strength by having three in the top six, first home was Rebecca Robinson in 1st, then Megan McBrien 3rd, Gaby Kinney 6th, Rachel Smith 17th and Nicole Parsons completed the scoring in 19th.

The team finished a clear first with individual awards going to Becky 1st , Megan 3rd and Gaby clinching 5th.

The U11 Boys had real strength in numbers with 17 Sutton runners, the five scorers were Kieran Mullins (8th), Jamie Morrow-Jones (16th), William Preece (21st), Jack Whitehouse (22nd) and Joel Kirsten (24th).

This strong team made sure they finished in 1st place overall.

The U13 Boys team finished in 4th position with good runs from Shaun Evans (15th), Tom Wheeler (18th), Alfie McBrien (34th), Ben Robinson (47th) ,Jerome Austin (48th), George Rees (53rd) and Harry McGrail (76th). The team came 4th in the league. Good runs from Ben Topley (19th), Theo Larcombe (24th) Sam Watkins (32nd) and Peter Young (49th) in the U15 Boys race which gave the team a final position of 7th and Keiran Smith finished 29th in the U17 Mens race.

Over the five full league races for all age groups Royal Sutton finished in 2nd place with Rugby and Northampton 1st.

Some of the youngsters will be in action again on Saturday racing for their counties in the National Inter Counties race at Cofton Park, Bimingham.
