FA campaign kicks off with confidence

Sep 2 2011

ROMULUS kick off their FA Cup campaign tomorrow (Saturday) against Norton United at Chasetown.

Fans attending the game will be entered into a raffle to win a £100 cash prize as part of Non League Day, whoever’s ticket is drawn will get the chance to take three shots at an open training goal and if they score all three, they win the prize.

Norton play in the North West Counties League Division One, two divisions below the Roms, and shocked Midland Alliance front-runners Westfields in the last round, scoring four goals in the opening 35 minutes.

They currently lie second in their league with four wins and a draw from five games and have scored 22 goals already this season.

Roms manager Richard Evans said: “Cup ties like this are always dangerous, but as long as we are professional we can be confident of a positive result.”

Romulus go into the tie on the back of a mixed weekend, having their first victory 2-1 over Belper Town on Saturday, but then losing 3-1 to Sutton Coldfield Town.

“We were a bit slow on Monday, but there’s nothing drastically wrong,” Evans added.

“One or two of the lads are still returning to fitness and that will be a big help.”

Roms are third from bottom in The Evo-Stik League Northern Premier, First Division South, with four points from six games.

Chasetown’s ground is on Church Road, Chasetown, Staffordshire, WS7 3QL. KO is 3pm.
