Determined start pays off as Salts secure the victory

Mar 12 2010

Old Saltleians 33 Bridgnorth 13

SALTS started fast and hard and within two minutes, Pete Harris was crossing the line under the posts for a simple conversion by James Mason.

A Bridgnorth penalty came in reply but it was Sam Turner who touched down next for Salts, only for the Bridgnorth pack to drive over the line to touch down for an unconverted try. The half ended at 12-8 to Salts.

From the re-start, Salts immediately attacked and Tom Lee dived over to leave Mason an unmissable kick. A cross field run from Nathan Merritt opened up the pitch for Tom Lee. He passed to skipper Chris Newman who took two defenders crashing over the line with him to score. Mason converted.

Salts were soon on the hunt again. Dan Fentham peeled off the back of the scrum, Nicholas Vaughan caught the ball and found space to run straight through the defence to touch down for another easy conversion for Mason’s boot.

Bridgnorth though hadn’t given up, scoring an unconverted try.
