Leek 0 Sutton Coldfield Town 5 It was a 5-star performance from the Royals in front of a large crowd on Saturday as Sutton moved up to second in the Evo -Stik League Northern Premier First Division South - just missing out on top spot on goal difference. With three wins from four games the season holds plenty of promise but manager Chris Keogh is determined to keep everyone’s feet on the ground: “We’re delighted with the start but it’s early days. There was a bit of euphoria in the changing room but we don’t want to get over excited: football has a way of turning its ugly head.” That ‘ugly head’ was certainly not on display at Harrison Park with Sutton playing some composed one-touch football with five different scorers underlining their attacking options. It took just 13 seconds for the gates to open with the in-form James Reid racing on to a flick from Craig Marshall immediately after kick-off. “It continued in that vain really: it was a great performance and every goal was well worked,” said Keogh. “We’ve encouraged the team to play as much football as possible: to pass and move. We’ve always been a passing side, it sometimes costs you but I like to think we’ve put a lot of work in over the summer and that we’ve brought the right type of players here.” Encouragingly those players were also able to combine to keep a second consecutive clean sheet following the 3-0 victory over Stamford last weekend. Two great saves from keeper Niall Cooper kept The Daniels at bay before Matt Dodd squared to Ross Miller for the first, Marshall capitalised on a defensive mix up to crash home the second before Reid chased on to a poor back pass before elegantly lobbing the on-rushing keeper. Next up, before Monday’s Coles Lane derby with Romulus, comes an away day at Brigg Town on Saturday. |
