Saturday saw Royal Sutton Athletics Club in action again at Stafford Common in the Midland Area Cross Country Championships. The conditions were awful; with temperatures below freezing, a biting wind, hard ground with its fair share of large swamped areas, water, and steep muddy down hills, but this didn’t stop everyone trying their best. The U13 Girls squad saw Lizzie Ward complete a great run finishing 15th with Sophia Karski 31st and Molly Rees in 43rd. In the U13 Boys team Alfie McBrien finished in 18th, Tom Wheeler 24th, Shaun Evans 32nd and completing the team was George Rees in 74th which bought the team 6th position. The U15 Girls squad finished in Team Silver position with the team consisting of Megan McBrien who had a fantastic run making light work of the course and coming home in 5th, Nicole Parsons 21st, Rachel Smith 27th and Niamh Gent completing the scoring in 31st. Support came from Becky Robinson, Gemma Gilbert, Mirands Stoddart, Lydia Sergiew and Gabby Kinney. The U15 Boys team consisted of Ben Topley who finished 26th, Theo Larcombe 46th, Sam Watkins 78th and Peter Young in 100th which took the team to 11th position. The U17 Women also finished in 11th place over the 5km course with Megan Stratford in 36th, Lucy Jennings 42nd, Emily Cosgrove 44th and Lizzie Farrow 56th. In the U20 Women’s race Larna Partridge ran brilliantly and finished in 5th place, and in the Senior Womens race Emma Langdell ran superbly to finish the 8km course in 16th. * Royal Sutton Coldfield Athletics Club welcome new members of all ages and anyone who is interested in coaching should come to the club house in Wyndley Lane on Tuesday or Thursday evenings. |
