Art and cake mixture in venture

Apr 25 2008

Boldmere shoppers will be sweet on Sutton businesswoman Helen Feasey this weekend when they are treated to free cakes marking the launch of her innovative new shop.

Helen, 25, is managing 'The Little Cake Shop' on Boldmere High Street - a combined cake shop and art space sure to provide a winning recipe.

Sweet-toothed members of the public are invited to have a look around and sample Helen's delicious cakes on Saturday and Sunday.

Former Fairfax School student Helen began her career in cake-making aged ten when she took part in a demonstration at DIY Icing in Erdington.

She then gained a taste for the profession and joined the junior section of the British Sugar Craft Guild, before finally starting work at Pat-a-Cake.

After studying art at Lancaster University, Helen has returned home to follow her own creative dream of indulging her passion for baking and art.

"I've always wanted to do something creative and combining a cake shop and an art space seemed like the perfect harmony," she said.

"I hope this will give local artists a place to showcase their work and provide a platform for home-grown talent -either on canvas or on the cooker!"

"Sutton and Birmingham are dominated by large chains and I feel that small boutique shops are more friendly and are able to deliver that personal touch."

All of Helen's cakes are of her own design and the company will cater for all manner of occasions including weddings and christenings.

The shop will also stock chocolates, artwork and frames, plus a range of Sugar Craft equipment.
