PLANS to build almost 50 new houses on a former playing field in Erdington have been delayed after 150 furious residents and councillors objected.
Bellway Homess application for 47 homes on the popular open space on Goosemoor Lane, which until 15 years ago was used as an official recreation ground, had been marked for approval before it went to Birmingham planning department last week.
But city planners said they were concerned about the loss of public open space as well as the number of homes proposed and are to visit the site before making any decision.
Councillor Keith Linnecor (Lab, Oscott) said: It should be retained as a valuable spot for the local community in terms of recreation.
Residents and councillors had also raised fears over traffic and speeding along the road. Gary OBrien of Goosemoor Lane said: Residents certainly arent happy about the planned new road coming out onto what is an already dangerous bend in Goosemoor Lane.
If the plans are approved, Bellway Homes has agreed to pay planning compensation to the council of s210,000 for the loss of the playing fields.
